Year 1 - Grade 3/4
During immersion week, amid all its hustle, I was reminded of the reason I teach, as written in a previous reflection:
“Following one of our math lessons, one student asked if she and I could play one round of the “Arrays and Remainders Game”, during recess no less. As we worked through the round, and as her confidence in division grew, I noticed the satisfaction of her accomplishments in her eyes. That does not happen working 9-5 – that is why I teach.”

Art ClubStudents in grades 3/4 were invited to join the Art Club, where they had the opportunity to work with clay. Given minimal guidance, students were challenged to create figures and shapes of their own choosing. In the end, students were given their finished, oven-fired design. It was amazing to see each student's personal creativity and artistry during this project.

Outdoor School - Grades 5/6I was asked to volunteer alongside the grade 5/6 teachers at Outdoor School, an annual 3-day camp outside the city. The students participated in many outdoor-based events, ranging from animal games, wetland studies, climbing walls, hikes, shelter building, and nightly campfires. This was a fantastic experience, which allowed me to interact with the students outside of the school, as well as witness learning beyond the four walls of the classroom.

Waste in Our WorldThe grade 4 Program of Studies for science features a unit titled Waste in Our World. The students in my practicum class were asked to think deeply about the issues surrounding waste - its origins, impacts, and possible steps to aid in its eradication. Within this unit, the students were invited to create iMovies to present their learnings and findings - an amazingly powerful and engaging activity.
