What Makes Effective Learning and Teaching?
|
Reflective Practice“... good teaching cannot be reduced to technique; good teaching comes from the identity and integrity of the teacher” (Palmer, 1998). As Palmer asserts, there must not be a disconnect between who I am and who I portray - this disconnect prevents me from being fully involved in my teaching. Teaching is not an impersonal profession. Rather, it is one where, to maximize the learning potential of my students and myself, I must take risks and be an active learner with my students - indeed, a life-long learner. Effective teaching also requires knowledge of my students - their families, communities, cultures. Knowing your students, much like knowing myself, is not a static endeavour.
